Good to know

  • Without the regular expression option the search is taken literally, so a dot is a dot and a bracket is a bracket. That is usually what you want and it is the default for that reason.
  • With it on, $1 and $2 in the replacement stand for the groups you captured, $& for the whole match and $$ for a literal dollar sign. Patterns run in multiline mode, so ^ and $ mean the start and end of a line.
  • Two things to know with Turkish text: ignoring case will not match İ against i, because the browser folds the dotted capital to i plus a separate dot; and \w and \b cover ASCII letters only, so reach for an explicit class such as [a-zçğıöşü] when you need the rest.
  • Everything happens in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent to the server or stored anywhere.
