Good to know

  • Turkish is the reason the letter rules exist: the capital of i is İ and the lowercase of I is ı. Every other language turns i into I, which is why Turkish text run through an ordinary converter comes back wrong.
  • Words are split on spaces, underscores, hyphens and on case changes alike, so "user name", "user_name" and "userName" all produce the same result.
  • Accented letters are kept as they are. Turning é into e is a different job — that is what a slug tool is for.
  • The character count counts what a reader would call a character, so an emoji built from several code points still counts as one.
