Good to know

  • Base64 carries bytes with no record of the encoding used to produce them, which is why the character set is a guess you make here.
  • Turkish text that arrives as "ç" or "ÅŸ" was written in UTF-8 and read as Windows-1254, or the other way around — switch the encoding and it decodes again.
  • Line breaks and spaces are ignored, URL-safe Base64 (- and _) is converted, and missing padding is added for you.
  • Decoding happens entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent to the server or stored anywhere.
