Good to know

• Escaping the five characters HTML reserves is what stops text being read as markup. Everything else is optional and only matters when the page or the mail template cannot carry the characters.
• Decoding resolves entities and nothing else. Real tags come back as literal text rather than being stripped, and nothing in the input is ever activated — the decoder never builds elements.
• Named entities are all understood, not just the common five:  , ©, … and the rest come back as the characters they stand for.
• Everything happens in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent to the server or stored anywhere.
