Good to know
- The characters are drawn with rejection sampling, not with a modulo. The modulo is the obvious way and it is skewed: 256 does not divide by 62, so the first eight characters of that alphabet come up a quarter more often.
- Length beats variety. Adding one character to a 62-symbol password buys about six bits; turning symbols on buys about nine bits in total, once.
- "At least one of each kind" is there because sites demand it, and it costs a little of the strength shown above — the figure is the unconstrained one, so treat it as an upper bound when that box is ticked.
- The guessing rate quoted is an offline attacker with the hashed password in hand. Against a website that rate is nothing like ten billion a second — but you do not get to choose how they stored it.
